Create (bara) vs made (asah)
God created (bara) the heavens and earth. Earth is without form.
- Day 1: God made light (Which light did God make?)
- Day 2: Made (asah) the firmament. Separated the waters from above and below the expanse (hydrosphere, lithosphere, and atmosphere)
- Day 3: Waters separated from the dry land, grass, herbs and fruit trees (grass is the first to appear in the fossils)
- Day 4: Stars, sun and moon
- Day 5: God made fish, birds and land animals (Creation order recorded in the fossils)
- Day 6: God made man (created (bara) his soul and made/formed (asah) his body) (Did Adam have a navel? How old was he when created?)
- Day 7: God rested
Adam and Eve
Adam was made to oversee the animals. Lonely, and needed a helper.
Eve made from his rib as a helper to Adam. God had a plan. A man should leave his father and mother and cling to his wife.
Note how God wants his relationship with us to be. How long did Adam and Eve live in the garden?
One rule – Do not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Would you have been successful?)
- Deceit – You will be better if you sin
- Temptation – Desire
- Sin – Realization
- Guilt
Cain and Abel
Gen 4:1-8 Abel – Why was he pleasing to God? Why was Cain not pleasing?
Key Verse (memorize)
7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it.”
How can this verse help you and me?
How did Cain respond?
Punishment – Ground will not produce. Wanderer. But no one can harm him or their punishment will be 7 times worse. (Who would harm him?)
Seth
Gen 4:25 and 26 Seth. Seth had a son, Enosh.
At that time, men began to call on the name of the Lord.
